A special project for the International Year of Astronomy 2009

Here is a set of PDF files containing an English translation of Ottescu's work from 1907, originally in Romanian. It has been constructed in the format of a book, so if desired, it can be printed out as such, with pages printed back-to-back. To allow all the chapters to begin on the right-hand page, we have included blank pages as part of the PDF files, but have given them numbers too, so as to confirm they are not set up by accident.
Details concerning the constellations depicted in the illustrations for the CD-ROM cover, which also feature on the translated book's cover, can be found in Chapter One, pages 14-15, of the main text.
The PDF files are intended to be presented and read in the following order: Contents; Introduction; Chapters 1 to 8; Conclusion; Sources. Most of these are self-explanatory, but the Contents file includes a cover for the book, title and copyright pages, a detailed listing of contents for the book (which also serves as an index), a map identifying the locations of the old Romanian constellations, and notes by ourselves on the translation, including some biographical notes on Ottescu, and a map of Romania showing the locations of his important sources of information.
